Week of January 15-19,
2018
Fun times at the Brainshow Mania on Friday!
Can
you believe it is already the middle of the school year? Our 100th
day is quickly approaching. We have some activities planned to celebrate this
milestone event, which is scheduled for January 30th.
Reading: The title of this
week's story is "Then and Now." This non-fictional story emphasizes
how things we use today are different from things used long ago. We will practice
how to draw conclusions in a story. We will also work on developing meaningful word groups when writing
sentences. The amazing words presented will be: gears,
webcams, phonographs, headphones, handwritten, and newspapers. The sight
words we will focus on are: they, you, and of.
Phonics: The letter of the week is Oo. The children will work with the short /o/ sound, as in hop, as well as the long /o/ sound, as in hope.

Math: Topic 4 will be
completed and tested. This unit compares and orders numbers from 0 through 10. Topic 5 will also be
introduced this week. This topic explores the numbers to 20.
Reminders:
~
Remember to have your child wear a winter coat to school daily. We go outside
for recess as often as possible. It is too cold to wear only sweatshirts.
~ Please practice sight words daily. Also go over class work that is sent home. This helps to reinforce the concepts learned throughout the day. Continue to review letter sounds, counting to 100, and writing numbers to 20.
~All
tests that are sent home should be signed and RETURNED.
~Friday,
January 19th will be a dress down day. Students may wear jeans or
sweatpants with a Spartan shirt for
a donation of $1.00.
Specials:
Mon. Library Tues. Gym Wed. Art Thurs. Computers Fri. Music
Have an outstanding week!
