Please support our Fun Run!
Week of January 22-26, 2018
Reading: This week’s story is the
classic fable, “The Lion and the Mouse.” The skill we are focusing is Main
Idea (the important part of the story). The amazing words we
will discuss include: jungle, nibbling, trembling, beast, snarled, and
entangled. The sight words to focus on will be: they, you,
and of. During the week we will also examine how to correctly write
sentences. Children should know that a sentence is a complete thought. It
starts with a capital letter, has spaces between words, and ends with a period.
Phonics:
This week is a continuation of the /o/ sound, spelled with letter Oo. Remember:
this is a vowel, it has two sounds! We will be practicing /o/ in the beginning,
as well as the middle of words. Phoneme segmentation is also emphasized this
week (breaking words into individual sounds- example: /c/, /a/, /t/ ).
Math:
Topic 4 will be completed and tested. This unit compares
and orders numbers from 0 through 10. Topic 5 also begins this week. This topic
explores the numbers to 20. The students will be counting, reading,
and writing the numbers 11 through 20.
Reminders:
~ Please continue to practice sight words, counting to
100, and writing 0-20.
~ Outdoor recess continues throughout the winter. Please
dress your child appropriately for the cold weather.
~ The children will participate in a glow fun run on Friday, January 26th. Pledges are being accepted to raise
money for the PTO Boosterthon. Please make sure your child is wearing sneakers
and the blue shirt that was provided without cost. (These went home sometime in
October). The PTO provides our students with many fun activities throughout the
year. Please show your support if possible. Students can gain rewards when
goals are met.
Thank you for your continued cooperation!
~ Mrs. Green
